The International Master (MSc) „Clinical Medical Physics“ (CMP) is offered by the Faculty of Physics of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and by the Faculty of Medicine Heidelberg of Heidelberg University, Germany. Additional support is provided by the Clinica Alemana, the Department of Medical Physics in Radiotherapy of the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg (DKFZ) and by the Department of Radiation Oncology and Radiation Therapy at the University Hospital of Heidelberg. These institutions make Heidelberg one of the worldwide leading centres for the investigation and application of modern radiotherapy. This cooperation offers experience and expertise in the training and education of medical physics experts. Additionally, practical parts of the master program can be performed in both countries. Thus, an excellent theoretical and practical education can be gained which will enable the medical physics expert to work worldwide. Students will exit their studies with a double degree: it is awarded the degree “Magister en Física Médica” from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC) and the Master of Science (MSc) from Heidelberg University.
This educational program in medical physics best prepares participants to take the next step in their professional career. Medical Physicists play a decisive role in radiotherapy processes. They plan and carry out the patient’s radiation treatment, in collaboration with the physicians, and must take into account all relevant aspects, including radiation protection and the maintaining of radiotherapy and imaging equipment. The main program objective is the establishment of an educational program in the field of medical physics in radiotherapy which will enable the participants to perform their work in a professional way.
In 2017 our Master’s programme is currently undergoing reaccreditation and possible substantial structural changes.
